We&#8217;ll be back to our usual quality next week though! <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>97.7% of affiliates hate link building.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The other 2.3% are sociopaths who enjoy talking to complete strangers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh5.googleusercontent.com\/LNlNwkQdadxeBudlXSvQQ4XX4Yik-OtBctrl_SKABPtdxM3rA3-qvOCoEdjgDy1EBmjT-ZHORSTvL10jyZwPRxPun0ZMh9PH23XJONhQHdrwv5zAnpGBHS0X77z322o46co-LuP9\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I joke.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But the truth is that getting backlinks is the least fun part of affiliate marketing for most of you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The fun stuff is niche research, finding keywords, choosing products, designing a site, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, the question we\u2019re going to tackle today is\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Can you build profitable affiliate sites without building backlinks?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The short answer is \u201cYes\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But, as with most things in life, it\u2019s not as straightforward as it sounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>It takes YEARS<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In my recent interview with Jon Dykstra, he revealed that he never intentionally builds backlinks to any of his sites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And the guy earns at least US$70,000 per month, from 17 sites in total.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh6.googleusercontent.com\/2wcDYPQVAg0K8psMqE7s4xXVBWWT5tJWH-4mwCEm6l3tXuUR_2eb57PGy1r_Rksa2KQ3RhxY-WLaioMZHKl64NBVXwOIB_sENq5W5NDXWMJjDTn-4yavw-z25ONLr3uadjIlqBtr\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>He\u2019s also a one-man operation, outsourcing the majority of his content creation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But \u2013 and this is the real kicker &#8211; he has to wait at least two years for his sites to naturally gather enough backlinks to rank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So he earns VERY little for the first 24 months from each new site.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And that\u2019s the cost of his no link building strategy: Time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This completely goes against the instant gratification mindset that\u2019s so common today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And that\u2019s where you need to ask yourself: Are you willing to wait this long in exchange for not having to deal with link building?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How to build a no link building site<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s say that you either can\u2019t afford to or don\u2019t want to build backlinks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How would you actually go about building a no-links site?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s what I learned from talking to Jon Dykstra for over 1 hour on his process<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1 &#8211; Produce LOTS of content<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Sure, Jon does not build links but my gosh does he produce lots of content.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His biggest sites get multiple new posts per day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He outsources most of the work to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.writeraccess.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Writer Access<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.textbroker.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Text broker<\/a> but also has some in-house staff that\u2019s more specialized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To give you an idea of how much he invests, his latest income report states he spent $7,641 in August on content across his site portfolio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2 &#8211; Target super low competition keywords<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you don\u2019t build links your chance to rank for competitive keywords is small.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So he just doesn\u2019t even try.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Instead, he goes for low difficulty keywords on Ahrefs (KD 0-5)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also confirmed something we\u2019ve been saying for ages:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even keywords with \u201c10\u201d searches per month on Ahrefs can generate thousands of visits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And because your hit rate is high, it\u2019s often better to target these than more popular keywords.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh4.googleusercontent.com\/lt-lqrMwbQuK9CeKp5p-EAMGsj1GvwBOLMaYkqz2NFUze8jFv1KBpy7mS47VvDntGQdJJcUChSbQe846AinyW-2eGKCYFXkLh_gKqXzcUIKQUwjhu9qgdxEwWEhbXI7cXkqfF6ll\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>You can easily filter for these inside Ahrefs and quickly pick the most relevant keywords.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>3 &#8211; Don\u2019t bother with social media except for maybe Pinterest<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>I know you probably read that you need to diversify your traffic on some Facebook group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Usually, that\u2019s the kind of advice given by keyboard jockeys that didn\u2019t achieve much.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The truth is, most people who succeed focus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You get outsized returns for being great at one thing vs average at many.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s why for early stages sites, both Jon and us don\u2019t recommend you bother with social media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pinterest being a bit of an exception because it works like a search engine and sends lots of traffic to your site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>4 &#8211; Monetize with ads<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have been following this guide so far, you\u2019re like, wait\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Why is the keyword section so light?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s because Jon monetizes with ads almost exclusively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s right, he makes some money from affiliate marketing but the bulk of his money is display ads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh6.googleusercontent.com\/M4zbbpAOXDz3rLmfGKtmpepWiSfDPNQpysGVqwhTBMhY0fS3Wn_EaCd0vjQp_Myl-GpVNf5ZJXpnb-pAgLLuxPjBQvqvlOTJxEBHxfXpvDbsdAu4EqJldb_a3NCTj6bjzEnbK4t8\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s why he doesn\u2019t really need to bother with intent or most other things affiliate marketers worry about.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The model is simple:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just get people on the page and let <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adthrive.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Adthrive<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mediavine<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ezoic.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ezoic<\/a> (the best ad networks) pay you for it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>5 &#8211; Rince and repeat<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s really the gist of it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jon is not a guy who likes to complicate things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And you can\u2019t really blame him for it when it works so well for him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The rest, is just time, patience, and faith in your project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Final thoughts: did Jon convince me?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>So Jon\u2019s story is great and all but you know me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019m not easily convinced and I just tell you what I really think of pretty much anything we report on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So do I think this is a viable model and you should do this?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh4.googleusercontent.com\/R1MloMkdqwvwJrtBpIzwI6ayIQUdhShnYtuuTt1gKCpSpmOg--Dcdd3m6sWp7m3LlZMBLrnmdtNb6LhtdmYrLCj_4ZcGC9lgDowIQnsiV9dzOe4PbU5VXyxuIDR8UlCz5XWJ03-n\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I think it can work&#8230; with a lot of patience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I mean, Jon proves it with his success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But then again, if it takes 3 years for a site to take off, where will Google be in 3 years?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What are the chances my site is still relevant then and not affected by some crazy updates?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s a risk for sure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I think if you want to go for this model, I\u2019d at least learn how to pick up dropped domains so you start with a base of authority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Or even buy existing sites that have some authority than just ignore link building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In my opinion, the results will be much faster for not much more money if you consider the price of content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Still, Jon\u2019s story is impressive and it\u2019s well worth watching the full interview if you want to learn more about his interesting model.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You know where to go for the full episode!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By the way.
