to take a look at the new kid on the SEO block \u2014 Link Whisper.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This WordPress plugin claims to be able to at least partially automate your internal link building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yes, you\u2019ll no longer have to add internal links to your pages or posts manually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This can only be a good thing because doing it manually is a necessary pain in the ass.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So let\u2019s look at how Link Whisper did when we put it through its paces.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"338\" src=\"https:\/\/www.authorityhacker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/link-whisper-homepage-screenshot-1024x338.png\" alt=\"Link Whisper Homepage Screenshot\" class=\"wp-image-45259\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"why-internal-links\">Why Internal Links?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You all know that internal links are really important for SEO, right?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you don\u2019t, we can assure you they absolutely are.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We even went as far as&nbsp;<a href=\"\/internal-links\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">analyzing 1,000,000 internal links<\/a>&nbsp;and proved there is a correlation between these types of links and pages ranking higher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So if you want to rank higher in Google you should pay attention to your site\u2019s internal linking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is especially true for pages with external links because it allows you to pass the link juice to other pages on your site, giving them a bump in the SERPs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Basically, internal link building is a vastly underestimated SEO tactic.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"the-problem\">The Problem With Finding Internal Links<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Now you\u2019re probably asking yourself why every affiliate you meet isn\u2019t talking about internal link building 24\/7\/365.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And the reason is that there\u2019s no way to automate the process of internal link building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My own approach for finding internal linking opportunities has been to use the Google \u201csite\u201d command, like so:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"473\" src=\"https:\/\/www.authorityhacker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/ah-site-command-internal-links-1024x473.png\" alt=\"Ah Site Command Internal Links\" class=\"wp-image-45260\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>The syntax for this is to open Google and then type, \u201c<em>Site: yourdomain.com \u201ctarget keyword<\/em>\u201d.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Google then gives me a list of relevant posts, which is for internal links in this case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And while I like this little hack it\u2019s not perfect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s an example of where you can run into problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s say you have a blog post about the best \u201cSEO plugins\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Using my method, I\u2019d type the following into a Google search bar:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Site: authorityhacker.com \u201cSEO plugins\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"439\" src=\"https:\/\/www.authorityhacker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/ah-site-command-seo-plugins-1024x439.png\" alt=\"Ah Site Command Seo Plugins\" class=\"wp-image-45261\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>This then gives me recommendations from Google for internal links.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But the problem is that my article is not only about SEO plugins \u2013 it has a bunch of subtopics within it like:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Site speed<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Yoast issues<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Schema markup<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Title tags<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Meta descriptions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Each of these searches could have relevant internal links for the sub-section of the review, and my tactic doesn\u2019t really cover that type of eventuality.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, I\u2019m going to miss out on a lot of opportunities for internal links, which is a pain because we both know how important they are for improving your rankings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There has to be an easier way to do internal linking, right?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"introducing-link-whisper\">Introducing Link Whisper<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>And that\u2019s where Link Whisper enters the picture.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"320\" src=\"https:\/\/www.authorityhacker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/link-whisper-small-suggestions-big-results-1024x320.png\" alt=\"Link Whisper Small Suggestions Big Results\" class=\"wp-image-45263\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p><a href=\"\/recommends\/link-whisper\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Link Whisper<\/a>&nbsp;promises to harness the power of AI to find internal link opportunities for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But an actual AI (artificial intelligence) is still at least a decade away, so what Link Whisper uses instead is a basic&nbsp;<strong>N<\/strong>atural&nbsp;<strong>L<\/strong>anguage&nbsp;<strong>P<\/strong>rocessing (NLP) algorithm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But I digress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Basically, Link Whisper automates the process of finding what pages on your site you can send internal links to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And it does that for:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>$77 per year for 1 site<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>$107 per year for 3 sites; or<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>$157 per year for 10 sites<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.authorityhacker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/pricing-link-whisper-1024x445.png\" alt=\"Pricing Link Whisper\" class=\"wp-image-48361\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>So it\u2019s not ludicrously expensive, especially if you run multiple affiliate sites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But it\u2019s also not free.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, I guess the question we need to answer in this review is:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cDoes Link Whisper bring enough value to the table to justify its price?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s get to answering that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"installation-activation\">Link Whisper Installation &amp; Activation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Purchase your&nbsp;<a href=\"\/recommends\/link-whisper\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Link Whisper license<\/a>, install the plugin, activate it, and then enter your license key.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All done.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You\u2019ll find the suggested links panel at the bottom of whatever page or post you want to build internal links from:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"518\" src=\"https:\/\/www.authorityhacker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/suggested-links-panel-link-whisper-1024x518.png\" alt=\"Suggested Links Panel Link Whisper\" class=\"wp-image-48331\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>You can configure it to use custom posts \u2013 you just need to set it to trigger in the Link Whisper settings menu:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"354\" src=\"https:\/\/www.authorityhacker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/post-types-customization-link-whisper-1024x354.png\" alt=\"Post Types Customization Link Whisper\" class=\"wp-image-48332\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>You can also limit it to only look for links within the same category as the post, which is great if you are building self-contained silos and you have a really strict silo structure.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"161\" src=\"https:\/\/www.authorityhacker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/suggested-links-in-the-same-category-posts-link-whisper-1024x161.png\" alt=\"Suggested Links In The Same Category Posts Link Whisper\" class=\"wp-image-48333\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Or you can just let it scan your entire site for suggestions, which it does by default.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the left, you\u2019ll be presented with a list of the different parts of your article you can link from and the suggested anchor text for the internal link from that page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These are your \u2018Outbound internal links\u2019:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.authorityhacker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/suggested-phrases-link-whisper-1024x521.png\" alt=\"Suggested Phrases Link Whisper\" class=\"wp-image-48335\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>And while there\u2019s usually enough information here, I often found myself opening the post to double-check because I wasn\u2019t really sure where that particular snippet of text was in my content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So it took me way more time to evaluate if each link was relevant or not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You\u2019ve probably also noticed that the suggested anchor text for the links is pretty long.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Like half-sentence-long in many cases.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When I add links to an internal page I usually try to keep my anchor text to 3 \u2013 4 words maximum, so these suggestions are just way too long for my liking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But that\u2019s something you can fix thanks to a recent update to Link Whisper \u2013 the \u2018Edit Sentence\u2019 function.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We cover that in more detail later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the right-hand panel, you get the title of the post you can add links to.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"521\" src=\"https:\/\/www.authorityhacker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/suggested-posts-link-whisper-1024x521.png\" alt=\"Suggested Posts Link Whisper\" class=\"wp-image-48336\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>If you click on the little arrow you get a list of alternative URLs in case you don\u2019t like the one suggested, allowing you to pick a different destination URL for each internal link:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"352\" src=\"https:\/\/www.authorityhacker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/suggested-post-alternatives-link-whisper-1024x352.png\" alt=\"Suggested Post Alternatives Link Whisper\" class=\"wp-image-48337\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>And then when you\u2019re happy with the internal links you\u2019ve selected you simply click on \u2018<strong>Update Post<\/strong>\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"346\" src=\"https:\/\/www.authorityhacker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/update-post-option-link-whisper-1024x346.png\" alt=\"Update Post Option Link Whisper\" class=\"wp-image-48338\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Your page will then reload with all the new internal links added to it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"inbound-internal-links\">Link Whisper Inbound Internal Links<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>So far we\u2019ve only looked at the \u2018Outbound internal links\u2019 feature which is great, but what if you have a specific page that you want to build internal links to?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Never fear, that\u2019s also catered for \u2013 just head over to the Link Whisper Dashboard and click \u2018Links Report\u2019:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"133\" src=\"https:\/\/www.authorityhacker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/link-report-link-whisper-1024x133.png\" alt=\"Link Report Link Whisper\" class=\"wp-image-48339\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>When you click on the \u2018Links report\u2019 you get the option to add inbound internal links to a specific page:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"282\" src=\"https:\/\/www.authorityhacker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/internal-links-report-link-whisper-1024x282.png\" alt=\"Internal Links Report Link Whisper\" class=\"wp-image-48340\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>So if we use the example of our recent blog post on the&nbsp;best affiliate marketing books for newbies&nbsp;we get the following suggestions:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"466\" src=\"https:\/\/www.authorityhacker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/inbound-internal-links-suggestions-link-whisper-1024x466.png\" alt=\"Inbound Internal Links Suggestions Link Whisper\" class=\"wp-image-48341\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>All told it found 178 pages that could link to our new blog post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s pretty impressive \u2013 imagine being able to potentially add over 170 new links to a page on your site?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Oomph!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Except every link uses the exact same anchor text \u2013 affiliate marketing.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Boo!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As suggestions go, this isn\u2019t terrible, but not at precise as it could be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>BUT you can run a keyword search to find pages that contain the phrase you want to use for your internal links:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"409\" src=\"https:\/\/www.authorityhacker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/internal-links-keyword-search-in-link-whisper-1024x409.png\" alt=\"Internal Links Keyword Search In Link Whisper\" class=\"wp-image-48342\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>This allows you to shift between mass internal link building and instead focusing on topical relevancy.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So that\u2019s pretty cool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But there\u2019s still a manual element involved so that somewhat reduces how automated Link Whisper actually is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"ignoring-links\">Is Link Whisper Ignoring Links?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Now let\u2019s turn things on their head by asking a pertinent question:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What if there\u2019s a page or post you absolutely never want to build links to?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No problem \u2013 you simply tell Link Whisper to ignore that URL.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first way to do this is from within the \u2018Suggested Links\u2019 dialog:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"291\" src=\"https:\/\/www.authorityhacker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/ignore-link-option-link-whisper-1024x291.png\" alt=\"Ignore Link Option Link Whisper\" class=\"wp-image-48343\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Or you can head over to the settings for Link Whisper and do it there:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"262\" src=\"https:\/\/www.authorityhacker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/ignore-link-settings-link-whisper-1024x262.png\" alt=\"Ignore Link Settings Link Whisper\" class=\"wp-image-48344\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>You can also do this for entire categories from within the \u2018Settings\u2019 screen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pretty neat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"url-changer\">Link Whisper URL Changer<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This feature allows you to bulk change URLs across your site.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"260\" src=\"https:\/\/www.authorityhacker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/url-changer-in-link-whisper-1024x260.png\" alt=\"Url Changer In Link Whisper\" class=\"wp-image-48345\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>This would come in very handy if you changed your overall site structure and didn\u2019t want to update each link by hand, for example.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It allows you to change dozens (or even hundreds) of internal links with just a few clicks, and without using redirects.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"automatic-linking\">Link Whisper Automatic Linking<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, here\u2019s something interesting \u2013 a \u201cbrute force\u201d, algorithmic approach to internal link building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You simply choose the URL you want to build links to, and what you\u2019d like the anchor text for those links to say:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"253\" src=\"https:\/\/www.authorityhacker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/automatic-linking-option-link-whisper-1024x253.png\" alt=\"Automatic Linking Option Link Whisper\" class=\"wp-image-48346\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Then click \u2018Add Keyword\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019m a creature of habit so I scanned the page for a \u2018Start\u2019 button.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Using \u201cAdd Keyword\u201d is fine \u2013 it just feels a bit odd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the above example, we\u2019re using the phrase \u201ckeyword research tools\u201d to build links to our roundup of&nbsp;the best keyword research tools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can also choose from the following settings:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Add a link to this page from a post that already has an existing link to it. Which you probably don\u2019t want to do.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Only add a single link from another post to your target URL. Which you probably do want to do.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>And yes, every single inbound internal link created with \u2018Auto-linking\u2019 will have the same exact same anchor text.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But I had very mixed results with this new feature \u2013 keep reading to find out what happened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"reporting\">Link Whisper Reporting<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>There\u2019s nothing worse than having to trawl through a cluttered reporting interface, but Link Whisper doesn\u2019t force you to endure that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Instead, it keeps things very straightforward.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"466\" src=\"https:\/\/www.authorityhacker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/link-whisper-tool-dashboard-1024x466.png\" alt=\"Link Whisper Tool Dashboard\" class=\"wp-image-48347\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>You can choose from:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Dashboard<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Links report<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Domains report<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Error report<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>The \u2018Dashboard\u201d function is self-explanatory, but it does provide you with a visual overview of your site\u2019s linking structure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As you can see in the above example, roughly 75% of the links on our site are internal, so we\u2019re doing a pretty good job at retaining our link juice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Something else I like about the dashboard is the \u2018Link Stats\u2019 section because it gives you a snapshot of the numbers in relation to your internal links.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"466\" src=\"https:\/\/www.authorityhacker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/link-whisper-dashboard-links-stats-1024x466.png\" alt=\"Link Whisper Dashboard Links Stats\" class=\"wp-image-48348\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>This is especially useful for something like orphaned posts i.e. content that has no internal links pointing to it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Having orphaned posts is a wasted traffic opportunity, but they\u2019re all too easy to overlook or simply forget.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When you click \u2018Links report\u2019 you get a breakdown of your links by \u2018Inbound internal links\u2019, \u2018Outbound internal links\u2019, and \u2018Outbound external links\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"437\" src=\"https:\/\/www.authorityhacker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/link-whisper-internal-links-report-1024x437.png\" alt=\"Link Whisper Internal Links Report\" class=\"wp-image-48349\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>One neat feature is that you can sort a page or post by how many or few internal links it has, quickly identifying orphaned pages.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can also add links to pages from this part of the interface, which kind of makes sense in an odd way.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.authorityhacker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/add-inbound-iternal-link-option-link-whisper-1024x161.png\" alt=\"Add Inbound Iternal Link Option Link Whisper\" class=\"wp-image-48350\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>A part of me would still prefer all link building to exist in a separate part of the plug-in, and just keep \u2018Reporting\u2019 for\u2026well\u2026reports.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But the ability to add links from here does actually work well, once you get used to it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When you click on \u2018Domains report\u2019 you get to see\u2026well\u2026nothing. It kept timing out for us, and we\u2019re not sure why.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are working to resolve this issue with the Link Whisper team though.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But here\u2019s what a typical \u2018Domains Report\u2019 looks like \u2013 it shows you what domains you\u2019re linking out to, from where, and how often:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.authorityhacker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/domains-report-link-whisper-1024x359.png\" alt=\"Domains Report Link Whisper\" class=\"wp-image-48351\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>And then the final dashboard menu option is \u2018Error Report\u2019, which unsurprisingly provides you with a detailed report on any broken internal or external links on your site.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.authorityhacker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/error-report-link-whisper-1024x425.png\" alt=\"Error Report Link Whisper\" class=\"wp-image-48352\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>This is a really useful feature because sites go offline, affiliate programs close, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And you\u2019d normally have to run a separate tool or plugin to figure out which of your links are broken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just bear in mind that running this report on a large site takes a long, long time \u2013 even if you\u2019re running on a fast host.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, Link Whisper does appear to make building internal links to and from pages and posts far easier than doing things manually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But the truth is in the testing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"the-testing-phase\">Link Whisper Review: The Testing Phase<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Now we come to where the metal meets the meat \u2013 testing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To test Link Whisper\u2019s link building recommendations, I decided to take an existing post on Authority Hacker and run it through Link Whisper to see what internal links it would suggest:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"522\" src=\"https:\/\/www.authorityhacker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Post-AH-How-To-Sell-Your-Business-1024x522.png\" alt=\"Post AH How To Sell Your Business\" class=\"wp-image-48365\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>This is our case study on how&nbsp;<a href=\"\/how-to-sell-your-business\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">we sold a website for 6-figures<\/a>&nbsp;so it has a decent amount of incoming links.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That makes it a good example of a page you could use to pass link juice to other pages on your site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Soooo\u2026how did we get on?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"the-good-stuff\">The Good Stuff<\/h3>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"463\" src=\"https:\/\/www.authorityhacker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/internal-link-recommendations-link-whisper-1024x463.png\" alt=\"Internal Link Recommendations Link Whisper\" class=\"wp-image-48353\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Not too bad \u2013 Link Whisper gave me 62 internal link recommendations, and I used 17 of those.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>17 internal links on a post I have manually reviewed in the past is actually quite impressive.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So I\u2019m pretty happy with that as a result.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Is there anything I don\u2019t like about the tool?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"the-not-so-good-stuff\">The Not So Good Stuff<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>My first gripe is that way too many of the internal link suggestions were irrelevant, which is annoying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But then again, NLP is not nearly as advanced as people think or claim it is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If it was, then computers and Google would be writing and ranking content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There\u2019d be no need for SEOs, and you\u2019d be out of the job.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So let\u2019s be grateful for the failings of Natural Language Processing and for the fact that Link Whisper did actually present us with some decent suggestions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My next annoyance is around the fact that you can\u2019t manually enter a URL to link to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Or that was the case until Spencer and the guys at Link Whisper updated the plugin to allow custom URLs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This was based on some constructive feedback from me, so props to them for taking that on board.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So now if you think, \u201cYeah okay that\u2019s a good idea for a link\u2026but to this page instead\u201d, you simply click on \u2018Custom Link\u2019 and enter your preferred URL:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"389\" src=\"https:\/\/www.authorityhacker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/custom-link-option-link-whisper-1024x389.png\" alt=\"Custom Link Option Link Whisper\" class=\"wp-image-48354\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>So, in this example a really good internal link suggestion would have been to our article on the&nbsp;<a href=\"\/best-niches-affiliate-marketing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">best niches for affiliate marketing<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"522\" src=\"https:\/\/www.authorityhacker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Post-AH-Best-Niches-For-Affiliate-Marketing-1024x522.png\" alt=\"Post AH Best Niches For Affiliate Marketing\" class=\"wp-image-48364\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Now instead of doing it by hand, I can just use the custom link feature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This makes things so much easier for me and makes up for the low-quality NLP link recommendations Link Whisper generates in many cases.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another major gripe for me in an earlier iteration of the plugin was that you couldn\u2019t edit the anchor text in a meaningful way.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You could kind of click around and select different words, but not actually change it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Basically, it was really clumsy and awkward.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Again, the recent update to the plugin now allows you to directly edit the hyperlink by clicking on \u2018Edit Sentence\u2019:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"463\" src=\"https:\/\/www.authorityhacker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/edit-hyperlink-option-link-whisper-1024x463.png\" alt=\"Edit Hyperlink Option Link Whisper\" class=\"wp-image-48355\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>One thing I like to do when I do internal linking is to edit my text a little bit so the anchor text reflects the keywords I want to rank for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And being able to do this with Link Whisper now makes it far more powerful than previous versions.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But one thing that has generated one error after another is the \u2018Domain report\u2019 function:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"406\" src=\"https:\/\/www.authorityhacker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/domain-report-link-whisper-1024x406.png\" alt=\"Domain Report Link Whisper\" class=\"wp-image-48356\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>It times out every single time we try to load it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But it does seem to be site-specific because we\u2019ve tested Link Whisper on four different sites, spread across 3 web hosts, and this problem only appears on one of those four sites.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And, to their credit, the Link Whisper team is working with us to resolve the issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We also run into a few problems when testing the \u2018Auto-linking\u2019 feature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first test I ran crashed out with a debug error message:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"528\" class=\"wp-image-48357\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>It also timed out several times after that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But what was even stranger was the number of internal links generated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the earlier example, I used the fairly generic phrase: \u201ckeyword research tools\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This resulted in&nbsp;<strong>two&nbsp;<\/strong>internal links.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But if you run a site: authorityhacker.com search for the same phrase you get 276 results:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"184\" src=\"https:\/\/www.authorityhacker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/keyword-research-tools-phrase-search-on-ah-1024x184.png\" alt=\"Keyword Research Tools Phrase Search On Ah\" class=\"wp-image-48358\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>And even when I checked the \u2018Add link if the post already has this link\u201d Link Whisper still only added 8 links.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So something here doesn\u2019t make sense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It could be an issue specific to the AuthorityHacker site, but I can\u2019t think of any reasons why.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"a-deeper-analysis\">Link Whisper Review: A Deeper Analysis<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s what we looked at:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>How relevant are the link suggestions generated by Link Whisper?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How clean is the link code it generates?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Does it work with page builders?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Will it slow down your website?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"link-relevance\">Link Relevance<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019ve already covered this in a bit more detail above, but the long and short of it is that there were more irrelevant link suggestions than relevant ones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In our earlier example, we used 17 out of 62 suggestions, which is a 27.4% success rate.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s not awful, but you wouldn\u2019t want to put a ring on it either.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"code-cleanliness\">Code Cleanliness<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In the past, I\u2019ve seen a bunch of similar internal link building plugins using tons of Ajax or JavaScript redirects to create links, which is just really messy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But when I looked at the actual post I added the links to, they were all regular HTML. So kudos to the Link Whisper developers here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As far as I\u2019m concerned, the internal links built by Link Whisper are just as good as ones you build manually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"page-builder-compatibility\">Page Builder Compatibility<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A growing number of affiliates are using page builders like&nbsp;Elementor,&nbsp;Thrive Architect,&nbsp;Divi,&nbsp;Beaver, and&nbsp;Oxygen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So it\u2019s worth asking in advance if this WordPress plugin works with these tools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The test above used Guttenberg, but I also tested it with Elementor and it worked fine there too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019m pretty confident that, for the supported page builders, Link Whisper will work without any major glitches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More brownie points for the developers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"will-it-slow-down-your-website\">Will It Slow Down Your Website?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Page speed is all the rage in SEO and affiliate circles these days, so we have to touch on it here too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, how many resources does Link Whisper use?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I took one of my blog posts and ran a GTmetrix test on it before using this link building plugin, and then another one after.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And as you can see there\u2019s no discernible difference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Before<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"350\" src=\"https:\/\/www.authorityhacker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/link-whisper-speed-test-before-1024x350.png\" alt=\"Link Whisper Speed Test BeforeLink Whisper Speed Test Before\" class=\"wp-image-45282\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>After<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"358\" src=\"https:\/\/www.authorityhacker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/link-whisper-speed-test-after-1024x358.png\" alt=\"Link Whisper Speed Test After\" class=\"wp-image-45281\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Actually, the \u201cafter\u201d result was faster, so maybe the server had a Diet Coke and got an energy boost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Either way, Link Whisper had no discernible negative impact on page speed.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Next up, I checked Query Monitor to see if this plugin was loading any extra scripts in the background:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"210\" src=\"https:\/\/www.authorityhacker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/link-whisper-speed-test-query-monitor-1024x210.png\" alt=\"Link Whisper Speed Test Query Monitor\" class=\"wp-image-49103\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Nothing showed up for Link Whisper, so again that\u2019s a good sign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This plugin probably does use some resources when it\u2019s crawling new pages, but that would only be a temporary thing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, based on all my testing, I\u2019m happy to report that Link Whisper doesn\u2019t slow your site down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"summing-it-up\">Summing It Up<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>So, is Link Whisper worth your money?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The answer is \u201cYes\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite how much it annoyed me at times, I managed to add 17 internal links for a few minutes of work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Which is a hell of a lot faster than doing it manually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I think this plugin can add a lot of value on a big site, especially if you\u2019re outsourcing the content uploading or management for that site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yes, it does suggest nonsensical links at times, but it makes up for that by helping you streamline your internal link building.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As of right now, Link Whisper is the best internal link \u201cautomation\u201d tool I\u2019m aware of and with the cleanest code.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thanks to the recent updates to its core functionality, I can see the Authority Hacker team using it on at least some of our sites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In this review, we\u2019re going to take a look at the new kid on the SEO block \u2014 Link Whisper.
